We All Have It. But Are You Listening?
Published about 1 month ago • 3 min read
Hello Friend,
I hope the rays of summer have been good to you, and that like me, you have had some down time as well as time to connect with friends and family. Summer has a way of slowing, yet feeling very full.
Admittedly, I’ve been somewhat preoccupied by the noise, deception, and fakery presently afoot in the world - and in the age of AI and endless chatter - have been thinking about how easy it is to lose touch with something profoundly real: one's own intuition.
Intuition
That ever-present inner whisper that nudges you, steers you, protects you, and helps you align with your deeper truth.
We all have this innate gift. But are we allowing space in which to listen? Recently, I have let some of my practices slip and need to recommit to myself.

Why We Stop Listening
We live in a noisy world that simultaneously teaches us to overthink, numb out, and constantly seek outside ourselves for answers. As the Einstein quote above notes, we also live in a world that values logic over instinct.
Further, many of us are taught from a young age to seek approval, to please others, and to override our own feelings. I discussed this on a podcast earlier this year. We end up saying “yes” when we mean “no,” and silencing the voice inside that says, “This isn’t right for me.”
As a mindfulness facilitator, I hear it all the time: “I don’t know what I want.” “I feel lost.” “I don’t trust myself.”
But here’s the truth: We do know. We just need to slow down, get quiet, and listen again. We can strengthen our ear and rebuild trust in ourselves.
All of the offerings at the Barred Owl are about creating time and space to connect deeply to your inner sensing, knowing, and voice. In community, we establish practices to sustain a dialogue with the self.
An afternoonMini-Retreat and Garden Party on August 30th will use the garden as a metaphor to connect us to nature and our inner voice. Leave with gifts and flowers!
Sunday Evening Sound Journeys occur twice monthly and provide deep relaxation and attunement to self through meditation and a sound bath of soothing instruments.
How to Strengthen Your Intuition
Until we meet, here are a few practices I return to again and again:
1.) Maintain Healthy boundaries – Saying what you mean strengthens trust with yourself. This is the hardest one for me. Start asking yourself: ➡️ What does YES feel like in my body? ➡️ What does NO feel like?
For me, yes lifts me—it feels expansive. A no feels heavy, contracting, even nauseating sometimes. With practice, this awareness becomes your compass. 2.) Meditation – Silence makes space for listening and insight.
3.) Solo time (without tech) – Lets your deeper sensing arise.
4.) Play – Tarot, art, dancing, etc...overrides the thinking mind and can unlock unexpected truths.
5.) Journaling – Helps you translate feelings into clarity. I particularly like writing Morning Pages when my head is clear and intuition strongest.
Here are prompts to get you started...
What do I truly desire?
Remember a time (or times) when you trusted your intuition to make a decision, and it worked out.
Is there a time you didn’t listen to your instinct? What happened?
Describe what a “yes” feels like in your body?
In your life right now, what are some areas where you need to listen to your own inner knowing and guidance instead of consulting or relying on others? How will you do so?
How have you—or how do you—disconnect from your authenticity and inner guidance? How or why has this been a coping mechanism? Explore any fears, beliefs, habits, or tendencies that might contribute to this disconnect.
Carl Jung said, “Who looks outside, dreams. Who looks inside, awakes.” When we reconnect with our intuition, we return to a place of alignment and resonance with our true voice. Our intuition is always there—quiet, steady, and wise—waiting for us to listen. Waiting to show us deeper self-trust and more clarity amidst the uncertainties of life.
I hope we can do some practicing and listening together.

Dear Reader, Yesterday, Facebook reminded me that three years ago, I walked away from a job I had held for fifteen years. I didn’t have another position lined up. I didn’t have a plan of any kind. What I had was an insistent whisper from within that grew louder each day: "It’s time to go." If you have taken any leap like this, I raise a glass to you. Much larger transitions exist, I know - like leaving a partnership, a homeland. Yet, at the time, choosing myself proved difficult. ...Align,...
Dear Reader, Welcome to a new season. I wish you a beautiful, light-filled summer and a renewed sense of connection—to yourself and to the world around you. Friday was my birthday. I'm grateful to have been born on the longest day of the year here in the Northern Hemisphere. The older we grow, perhaps the more we return to who we truly are, who we have always been. I celebrate the ongoing work of healing the soul, of remembering. We all come into this world original and full of light. As a...
