Dear Reader,
Has life been moving more quickly—or am I moving more slowly?
I suspect it’s a little of both. Alas, we are at the new year. It's time to honor the past and bring enthusiasm for the new, ready or not.
I wanted to send an end of the year email with well wishes and gratitude for your presence in this community, but I confess that when not busy with friends and family this holiday season, I have been still. Turning inward. Feeling tired—and listening to that tiredness instead of pushing through.
Happy New Year
Did you know that in the world of numerology we are headed into a time of initiations and newness? In numerology, this is 1 year. We are ending a 9 year cycle and beginning anew. Whether or not you follow numerology or astrology, many traditions mark this moment as a time of initiation and new beginnings. A threshold. A closing of one chapter and the opening of another. I’ve felt a strong pull to reflect deeply on what has passed before moving forward.
Recently, while having dinner with my daughter, Sadie, we both admitted we were feeling tired and a bit anxious about the days ahead. I asked her if she had taken time to acknowledge all she accomplished in 2025. Simply naming what we’ve lived through—what we’ve celebrated and survived—can restore energy and steadiness as we move forward. We really need to pause and give ourselves credit.
So I ask you the same question: Have you taken time to close 2025 with the care it deserves—that you deserve?
If you’re anything like Sadie and me, you may be holding a mix of emotions: gratitude and fatigue, pride and uncertainty, relief and longing. All of it belongs. And all of it longs to be acknowledged.
Before leaping into intention-setting or pinning goals to the bathroom mirror, I invite you to try a few simple mindfulness practices to close 2025 with care and step into 2026 feeling more centered.
1. Pause before you plan.
Rather than asking, What do I want to fix or change? try asking, What wants to be acknowledged?
Set aside 10 quiet minutes. Breathe. Let moments, images, or emotions from the past year arise without judgment. Mindfulness begins with noticing, not improving. You might look through photos on your phone or your calendar to support this reflection.
-What are you grateful for?
-What were your favorite moments or quiet wins?
-What did you face and move through?
2. Honor what carried you.
We often overlook our own resilience. Consider writing down three ways you showed up for yourself and others this year—even if imperfectly. Perhaps you rested when you needed to. Stayed when it was hard. Began again after disappointment. What did you learn? What themes shaped your year? Let this be recognition, not evaluation.
3. Release with compassion.
There may be expectations, upsets, roles, or stories you’re ready to leave behind. Place a hand on your heart and silently say: Thank _____ you for what you taught me. I release you now. Really allow your body to feel and sense that letting go.
4. Set intentions from the inside out.
Rather than resolutions, ask yourself how you want to feel in this new year. Steady? Spacious? Inspired? Clear? What actions or daily habits will support the feeling? Intentions rooted in awareness tend to guide us far more kindly than goals rooted in pressure.
This is the work of mindfulness. Living life awake asks us to return to ourselves again and again, bringing with us what we’ve learned.
That’s why I’m so glad to invite you to my annual January offering...
Over five days, January 12-16, (about 30 minutes each, live on Zoom), we’ll explore simple, accessible practices to:
- Ground your nervous system and begin the year feeling steadier
- Reconnect with your inner wisdom and self-trust
- Release habits of constant striving and self-criticism
- Create space for clarity and intention in 2026
- Build small, sustainable mindfulness practices you can carry into daily life
Each day includes a guided meditation (yours to keep) and a reflection practice. There’s nothing you need to prepare for or “keep up” with—and if you can’t attend live, I’ll send the recordings and materials so you can move at your own pace.
This journey may be for you if you’re feeling a little untethered, standing at the edge of change, or simply longing to begin the year in a way that feels meaningful rather than rushed.
I’d love to have you join me as we honor what has passed, reconnect with what matters most, and step into 2026 with greater presence and care. It truly will be richer with your presence. I'll send you a reminder and a printable journal for the journey this Sunday.
For now, I wish you a spacious beginning to this new year.
With love and light on your path,
Jess
